Original Watercolour & Cyanotype | Memories of a Wildflower - Meadow I (11 x 15 ")
Over the last century, 97% of wildflower meadows have disappeared from our landscapes, taking with them an extraordinary richness of plants, insects, and wildlife.
This piece is created with both watercolour and cyanotype, which feels especially fitting for these subjects. The soft, fluid colours of watercolour capture the delicacy of wildflowers, while the deep tones of cyanotype showcase the silhouettes of real plants and the quiet magic of sunlight and nature.
This work is the result of a slow, thoughtful process — gathering inspiration, observing plants closely, and spending time in a kind of quiet meditation while creating each piece.
Through these processes, I hope to share the beauty and fragility of wildflower meadows, raise awareness, and encourage people to value and protect these precious habitats.
The ‘Memories of a Wildflower’ series explores our precious meadows fading into a memory. A story of resilience and hope, fragility and strength.
Measures 275× 375 mm (11 X 15 inches) , unmounted and unframed, painted on lightly textured Saunders Waterford 200gsm paper, this mixed media work is part cyanotype toned with a rosemary botanical steep - which may change slightly overtime, finished with light fast mineral pigment artisan pan watercolour. I recommend UV glass when framing.
The Snowdrops in the cyanotype were foraged from our cultivated plant allotment garden, along with daisies and primroses. I am careful to only collect from an abundant flower source and do not take wildflowers that are endangered, I use naturally broken or windfall pieces or plants that I grow to use specifically in my art.
The artwork is signed and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
All IP (Intellectual Property) remains with the Artist.
If you would like to receive further images or a video of the work then please email hello@irishill.co.uk
For framing I recommend Winchester Framers on Bridge St, Winchester.
